Stoneybrook Animal Hospital is dedicated to making the most current veterinary health care practices available to your pet. Comprehensive physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and excellent nutrition all contribute to the health and well being of our precious pets. As a part of providing the best preventive health care to pets, we also encourage clients to have a blood and urine analysis (or "wellness" profile) done on their pets annually. This is particularly valuable for dogs and cats who are 7 years of age and older.
Why pets over 7 years of age? The pet/human age equivalence chart below shows that pets at 7 years of age and older may be at increased risk of developing age-related problems such as arthritis, diabetes, liver, kidney, and thyroid diseases. In the chart below, the shaded areas identify the senior pet.

The "wellness" profile gives us a more complete picture of your pet's overall health. It also provides a baseline for comparison with future profile results, and monitors your pet's health by comparing values to previous profiles. If your pet is 7 years of age or older, and has not had a "wellness" profile in the past year, we recommend that you call us to discuss the benefits of this testing for your pet.
As pets age, they also develop different nutritional needs. These pets may need different amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Feeding an appropriate senior diet and maintaining your pet at its optimal weight can have a positive effect on energy level and overall health.
During the month of February, our hospital Celebrates Seniors! Clients, who have a "wellness" profile done on their senior pet during February, will receive a complimentary bag or case of the Medi-Cal diet that best meets their pet's nutritional needs.
We're here to help with all your pet's health care needs!
